The word ‘mantra’ comes from the Sanskrit language.
“Man,” means mind, and “tra,” means transport or vehicle.
Therefore a mantra is an instrument of the mind, a powerful sound or vibration that can transport you into a deep state of meditation and oneness with the divine.
Chanting Mantras is a spiritual practice. Most cultures and spiritual traditions incorporate some form of chanting as a means of accessing deep inner states and experiencing healing and transcendence.
Mantras are very specific sounds, syllables or strings of words laden with archaic meaning and, more importantly, bearing vibrations powerful enough to bring about changes in the perception and the reality of the one chanting them.
