shamanic healing: training outline
The journey of becoming a shamanic healer in this tradition is divided into two main phases.
PHASE ONE begins with your own personal healing, for anyone wanting to heal others must first take a long hard look at themselves. This is done by assembling a Mesa, the primary tool of the Paqo or healer.
A Mesa is a medicine bundle containing several stones called Khuyas. At the completion of this first stage of your training you will have acquired 13 Khuyas, each of which will embody a very specific archetypal energy that will have become empowered by you through a corresponding number of healing journeys.
These are all journeys that you must make within yourself, to find the source of your specific wounding and transmute these into powers. The Wounded Healer is just such a one: someone who has managed to transform their darkness into light.
Once your Mesa is complete you will begin PHASE TWO where you will learn several healing interventions and processes that you will need to practice with friends and volunteers until you become proficient enough to venture out on your own.
Experience has shown me that in most cases the ideal frequency of training is one day a month.
The days can be fairly intense – most inner work is – so the time between training days will give you a chance to integrate as well as to practice what you have learned. The first part of the training where you assemble your Mesa is accomplished over 6 days. The second part of the training where you learn to heal others takes another 6 days. So if the frequency of the training is once a month, then the overall training will take 12 months to complete.
